Tuesday was another beautiful day for golf, and we had many ladies come out to play just for fun as it was a “No Sweeps” day. As I played golf and talked with my group I realized there is so much more to our group than golf.

The ladies of our golf club do far more than enjoy a round on the course. Behind the scenes and throughout the year, they play a vital role in making our club a welcoming, successful, and vibrant community. Through countless volunteer hours, dedication, and teamwork, these women contribute their time and talents in every area of club life.

As an example of the volunteer service many of our community provide was evident at the Italian Club cooking class. Our very own Gisele Barber demonstrated several Italian recipes, while many of our ladies served the delicious food. Seen serving the many who attended the event included Pam Short, Gloria Lowry, Judy Steinberg, Gail Tuft, and Camille Giuliodibari. Helping the chef, Laura Swenson, in the kitchen was Suzanne Fazzio. As with all the clubs and activities in the Villages, it takes many volunteers to make everything successful, and our 9 Hole Ladies are always on hand to help. Beyond golf, the ladies are often the first to step forward when help is needed.

On the golf course, the ladies support the spirit of friendly competition while encouraging camaraderie among members of all skill levels. They organize tournaments, assist with exchanges, welcome new members, and help create events that bring everyone together. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship are an important part of what makes our club special. An example of this was when Judy Steinberg agreed to step into the Co-Captain’s position when a member needed to step away to help her family.

The women of our golf club truly embody the spirit of service. They are golfers, leaders, organizers, mentors, and volunteers whose contributions extend far beyond the fairways and greens. Their dedication helps make our club not just a place to play golf, but a thriving community built on generosity, teamwork, and friendship. The next time you are asked to help keep the group running, please consider volunteering your time.
