It is so nice being in the California spring where our days are filled with warmth and sunshine. Many of our members came out to play today, enjoying the weather and the golf. Scores were exceptionally good and two of our members had chip-ins, Laurie Gallegos and Betty Chase – congratulations to you both.
One of our members had an interesting experience that she shared with me, and I thought it was something we all can learn from. After seeing someone walking on the course during play, she kindly advised them of the danger of being on the course in the middle of play. The walker thanked her and asked for her favorite colors. An unusual request but she answered. Two days later a gift in her colors was left on her deck with a note thanking her for being so kind in her explanation of the danger.
The lesson here is when you are confronted with telling someone they are breaking a rule on or off the golf course, we need to do it with kindness and understanding. It is received so much better and it works to strengthen relationships, promote learning and encourage positive behavior going forward. In a world that can sometimes be challenging, choosing kindness is a simple yet powerful way to make an impression on someone’s life.
