It was a toasty day for golf, but the scores were still exceptionally good, and many ladies were in contention for Captain’s Trophy. Both front and back nine winners had to be determined by a scorecard playoff.
Warm weather can make a round of golf more enjoyable, but it also increases the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and sunburn. A few simple habits can make a significant difference:
Stay hydrated. Drink water before you feel thirsty. On very hot or humid days, consider alternating water with a sports drink to replace electrolytes if you are sweating heavily.
Wear sun protection. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), reapply every two hours (or more often if you are sweating), and wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap, UV-blocking sunglasses, and lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Take advantage of shade. Rest in shaded areas whenever possible, especially while waiting on tees or between holes.
Eat light snacks. Fruit, nuts, or granola bars can help maintain your energy during a long round.
Watch for signs of heat illness. Dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive fatigue, muscle cramps, or confusion can signal heat exhaustion. If these occur, stop playing, move to a cool place, drink fluids, and seek medical care if symptoms are severe or do not improve.
