It was a wonderful day for golf—high 70s, slight breeze and the course in lovely condition. Our Captain, Mazie Rice, Co-Captain, Mary Wagle and Past Captain, Diana Hallock, had the fun of playing with two of our Silver Creek students, Rachel Park and Aliyana Wong. Oh, the joys of youth with all that strength and flexibility. Both were just a chip away from the first green with their tee shots. Wow! They both broke 100, with Aliyana shooting an 86 and Rachel shooting a 91. It was a thrill to watch! They will both be playing in the prestigious Helen Lengfeld Tournament on Tuesday, September 15 here at The Villages. All Villagers are invited to come out in the afternoon and watch girls from 28 Bay Area high schools compete on the front nine. It will be quite a day!
Our members donated generously again, but one donation was particularly touching. Many of our members used to play in a golf group called “Bells and Beaus.” After the group disbanded, there was some residual money left over. Judy Frey and Judy Rodriguez put their heads together and decided to give it to our Silver Creek girls team. What a special gift! For those still wanting to donate, checks should be made directly to Silver Creek High School with the note “Girls Golf Program,” and then delivered to Diana Hallock’s mail tube.
Our own members shot great golf today. Janis LeCompte and Priscilla Piper both shot birdies. Janet Gonzales, Vicki Krattli, MaryAnn Diridon and Sue Park split the Chip-In pot. Well done, ladies! We ended the day with cake, celebrating July birthdays.
