Summer has brought wonderful weather for golf but also a slight browning of the fairways. That means every divot and ball mark takes longer to heal. During the rainy season, a divot with roots still attached that is replaced immediately can regrow in 1-2 week but in warm weather it should be discarded. A summer divot immediately filled with sand mix can heal in 2-4 weeks. A summer divot ignored can take 1-3 months to regrow and can often leave a permanent scar or allow weeds to grow. Your Bandini patrol fills divots every Tuesday morning, but you can really help by filling divots, both yours and those left by others. You can also volunteer for Bandini! Find a friend, join us on Tuesday mornings and get some great exercise by walking and filling divots once a week. Contact Helen Varenkamp for more information.
A huge thank you to all who donated to the Silver Creek High School Girls Golf program. We received just over $3,000, which will help pay the substantial entry fee for the prestigious Helen Lengfeld Tournament here at The Villages. Funds will also be used for transportation and greens fees for both practice and tournament rounds. Our wonderful club has made a huge, positive investment in the future of these young women and the students that will come after them.
Our members shot great golf today. Camille Giuliodibari, Jay Lee, Bev Poellot, Judy Rodriguez, Monica Saneholtz, Janelle Salvatierra shot one birdie each and Priscilla Piper shot two birdies! Jay Lee, Judy Rodriguez, Monica Saneholtz, Renee Woolard split the Chip-In pot. Well done, ladies! The hot weather can’t faze members!
