By Judy OwenFirst round of the Club Championship today was played under beautiful blue skies, but also one of the hottest days we have played this year. It was 93 degrees when the field finished. There is no denying the heat impacted play of many of our members. It was just hot.

There are four flights competing in the Club Championship that finishes next Thursday. There are nine players in each flight. The Championship flight is playing from the 3/2 tees and will be awarded based on gross score. The other three flights play from the 2 tees and the winners will be based on net score. At the end of the first round the following are the leaders by flight: Championship – Camille Giuliodibari; First Flight – Judy Owen; Second Flight – Suzanne Fazzio; Third Flight – Kathy Apgar.

The heat did not stop players from making birdies. There were three: Helen Varenkamp Hole 14; Camille Giuliodibari Hole 16; In Kim Hole 15. Chip-ins were made by Jane Hong Hole 12; Betty Chase Hole 16; Michelle Chung Hole 17; Barbara Weisend Hole 18; and Kathy Apgar at both Hole 5 and 15. Nice playing ladies.

The Hole-in-One party will be held next Thursday afternoon (9/17) at the Cribari Auditorium. In addition to celebrating hole-in-one shooters, a drawing will be held for the Village Challenge teams. There are four teams that will compete in team match play on October 6, 13, and 20.

Looking forward to announcing our Club Champion next Thursday, September 17.
