Fairway Divots
We are currently having more outside tournaments along with more outside play, and it is clear that those players do not share the same compassion for our fairways as we do. It took a long time and a lot of effort to get them to look like they do, and we want to keep them that way. Become an honorary member of the “Bandini Patrol” and fix a divot when you see one in disrepair. And even better yet, if you see someone walking away from a “beaver pelt,” Villager or guest, let them know that is not acceptable and to please repair that atrocity. You will be proud of yourself for doing so, and the rest of us will hold you in very high regard.
If the divot is intact:
- Find the turf: Pick up the displaced grass chunk.
- Place it back: Fit it back into the hole in its original orientation like a puzzle piece.
- Step on it: Press your foot down firmly on the turf to help the roots reconnect with the soil below.
If the divot is destroyed or shattered:
- Use sand mix: If the piece broke apart or has no soil attached, do not try to replace it. Use the sand and seed divot mix provided on your cart or course.
- Fill evenly: Pour the mix into the hole until it is level with the base of the surrounding grass—avoid overfilling, which can hurt mowers, or underfilling, which leaves a hole.
- Smooth it out: Use your foot to gently press down and level the sand so the surface is flat.
