Driving Range Balls & Baskets—As we enter the busy season it is essential that we maintain an adequate supply of driving range balls and driving range baskets. Towards that goal, we ask that you please refrain from taking driving range balls and baskets home with you. A suggestion is that if you are only warming up, please purchase a warm-up basket so that you will only use what you purchase.
Also, please do not hit your own, personal golf balls on the driving range. Only Villages driving range balls are to be hit at the driving range. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation!
WOW – Women on Wednesday
Come and join the fun! All Villages women golfers are invited to join in every Wednesday at 3 p.m. on the Par-3 Course. Play 9-holes on the Par-3 Course with your friends and enjoy some food and beverages at the Bistro after golf. Sign up as a single, two-some, three-some or four-some by calling the Pro Shop.
Twilight Nine & Dine
Our second Twilight Nine & Dine will be on Friday, June 26 at 4:30 p.m. Come join the fun! Signups start on Friday, June 12. Sign up by calling the Pro Shop. The theme will be Scottish Cheers to Golf…please dress accordingly. The entry fee will be: $23 for a 9-hole green fee, plus $5 for sweeps, and $38 for an all-inclusive dinner.
Please Check-in for Golf—Please do us a big favor and always check in to the Pro Shop before you play golf. This will greatly assist us with billing accuracy and any changes that need to be made. We appreciate your cooperation!
Golf Course Yardage Markers—The Kirby Markers have been removed and will be replaced with the Villages Logo colored yardage markers in the middle of each fairway. The Blue Marker will be set at 200 yards, the White Marker will be set at 150 yards, and the Red Marker will be set at 100 yards. This will improve the aesthetic appearance of our yardage markers, will make them easier to find and will provide that all important branding for The Villages.
Ground Under Repair—There are several areas on the golf course that are Ground Under Repair. They are circles with white paint. Some have a sign, but some do not. If your ball enters one of these areas you may take relief as one club-length from the nearest point no nearer the hole and the ball must be dropped from knee level.
FYI the bunker on Hole #11 is in play, only the surrounding re-seeded area is Ground Under Repair.
Tips from the Pro—3 Quick Tips for More Distance off the Tee…
1. Turn More…as we get up in age it’s easy for the golf swing to become all arms and no body. If you want more distance off the tee, rotate your torso more. You might feel a bit out of control, but let it go! This turning will create more speed without you having to do anything else. On your backswing, try to get your left shoulder under your chin and turn your back to the target.
The Orange Whip is a great training aid to create more turn as the weighted head will create momentum and a fuller backswing.
Also move your right foot back (close your stance) to open up your right hip flexor and this will allow you to turn more on the backswing.
2. Lift your left heel on the backswing… à la Jack Nicklaus, Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau, lifting the left heel will take some pressure off your lower back and will allow you to turn more on the backswing. So let that left heel come up on the backswing, then be sure to plant it back on the downswing and give it a rip!
3. Relax your grip and arms at address…it’s easy to grip too tight and tense up when we want to hit it hard. But this tensing of the muscles, inhibits speed in your golf swing. Start with a nice, relaxed grip…if your hands and fingers are loose, your arms and shoulders will be loose, and it will be easier to turn and create arm speed. If you feel tense at address, milk the grip with your fingers (à la Sergio Garcia) or waggle the club a bit with your wrists (à la Jason Duffner).
Let me know if these tips help.
